A large Flemish Tapestry fragment of Alexander the Great on horseback.
Faded and clearly showing wear, historic repairs and roughly cut from a much larger tapestry, this rare section is a surprising survivor from the golden age and region of tapestry production.
Wool and silk, animal and plant dyes, fragmented silk and cotton backing.
Flemish, Circa 1680.
H: 103" W: 95"
H: 262 W: 241 CM.
After a design by Justus van Egmont (1601–1674), possibly from the workshop of Gerard Peemans or Willem van Leefdael.
