Grasses “Useless” in Agriculture
A pair of Sutton Seeds “Useful Grasses & Useless Grasses” wall mounted retailers display cases or samplers.
Each Ebonised case bearing the Royal appointment “Sutton & Sons, seedsmen to his majesty the King, Reading, England” on card to the bottom third of the display, twenty four grasses are shown above with the Matching twenty four seed cases below.
A highly original pair, some wear to the frames, some loose grasses, the only pair in ebonised frames we have found and of this smaller the usually scale.
Early 20th century.
As well as inventing the paper seed packet, Suttons led the world in the cultivation, supply, marketing and distribution of bulbs and seeds in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
