A Quing Dynasty "Vein Ebony" Library Table

A magnificent late 19th century Chinese Vein or Striped Ebony library table.

The solid inset top with engraved silver mounts above an unadorned curved freize, raised on bold legs terminating in a robust ball foot.

Excellent original condition.

This rare table exhibits the clean minimalist form which is a hallmark of Ming and early Qing dynasty aesthetics, this now feels and looks contemporary in our eyes, would work well as a desk, sofa or side table.

This beautiful exotic hardwood was used during the Ming & Qing dynasties, not the same thing as Ebony,  黑檀 Hēi tán,  "Vein Ebony", "Striped ebony" or “文木” in ancient Chinese.
