A teak and canvas Roorkhree campaign chair, the original canvas bag bearing the name of W.W. Howe, RAF.
The backrest is indistinctly marked in chalk.....
Circa 1910-30.
These chairs were first used by the British military around the time of the Boer War and were still being produced as late as WW2. They were invented in India and were named after the headquarters of the Indian Army Corps in Roorkhee. They were designed to be light and easily packed. Due to their construction, they remain stable on uneven ground.
