An Early 19th Century Anglesey “Cwpwrdd Bara Caws”

Ref: 14952

Sold.

An early 19th century oak and pine “bread and cheese” cupboard, or as they are referred to in Wales a “Cwpwrdd Bara Caws”.

The oak facade with painted pine returns, raised on bracket feet with brass handles.

The most original example, we have found, outstanding throughout, showing no restoration, alteration or refinishing, purchased on Anglesey recently and likely to have never left the island prior to this.

The construction and style of this cupboard bear all the hallmarks of the cabinet making William's family of Talwrn, Anglesey.

North Wales, Anglesey, Talwrn, circa 1810-20.
