An ebonised and rush seated Sussex Armchair.
Instantly perceived as a Morris Sussex chair I think this example is a prototype for the more commonly known example.
Bearing most of the nuances of the mass produced example, this varies by not having the armrest supports pierced all the way through the stretchers and the addition of white painted stripes to the frame that were clearly applied during the period. The four vertical back splat spindles are also not found on the catalogue model.
It couldn't be more untouched, incredible find, museum quality.
