Compton Snake Pot
A large Compton pottery terracotta "Cobra" or "snake pot".
Rare to find in this superb condition and in the largest size that was produced.
The pot has all three of the relevant marks, firstly the batch number to the rim, secondly the pottery mark to the side and thirdly the artisans rough march to the interior.
The pottery was started by Mary Seton Watts (wife of famous Victorian artist GF Watts) at Compton, Surrey. Much of her output was also made for and retailed at Liberty & Co of London, who also had their Archibald Knox Celtic style garden ornaments made at Compton.
English Circa 1900.
