A Grecian Revival Cast Iron Torchere
Ref: 14505
Raised on animalistic leg with lion's paw feet, anthemion decorations to the skirt, reeded tapering column terminating in acanthus with bowl above.
Originally an oil lamp with glass uplighter would have topped this piece, but the space left is perfect for a large candle.
Crisp casting and not often seen, I've only found one before now.
English, circa 1880, probably produced by Walter Macfarlane's Saracen Foundry, Glasgow, and as shown in their late 19th century catalogue.
