A George III Coade & Sealy Corinthian Capital
A large Architectural Corinthian capital top produced and marked "Coade & Sealy, London, 1812".
The Coade catalogue lists two styles of this capital (no 165-166) which Mrs Coade describes as "Composed" and one which she called "Fancy" (no 181), this capital also has a small serpent to the top centre, we have a piece of the missing section which will be reinstated prior to sale.
It has a striking similarity to the capitals commissioned for Leeds court house , designed by Thomas Taylor, and built between 1811-13, (demolished in 1901), see images of Coade capitals and plaques, reference Mrs Coades stone, by Alison Kelly page 155.
A large and particularly rare example of the Coade factories exemplary work.
