Both with black and gilt Japanned decoration, raised on cabriole leg with exaggerated paw foot, the two door cabinet with scrolled broken pediment above "one pediment replaced with a naive, possibly estate made copy", the doors open to reveal the decorated interior with central mirror plate and pocket watch holder above, flanked by two open pigeon holes and four short drawers and two long drawers below, the base unit open to multiple storage some with lift of covers, single drawer below with adjustable writing slope.

Although clearly made to be used in the same scheme the scale and decoration differs from one to the other but does not from the overall effect.

Historic repairs and losses.

Chinese export, Canton, circa 1810-20.

Provenance, by repute, Nanteos House, Ceredigion.

Sold and priced as a pair.
