Undoubtedly mirroring the work of one of the preeminent Edinburgh workshops, possibly Francis Brodies, who produced work for Dumfries House and Hopetoun House, continued by his son Deacon William Brodie.
Deacons duality as a respectable tradesman and burglar inspired Jekyll and Hyde. He trained in the family workshop and later took over the business, his time at this workshop corresponds closely with the commissioning and construction of Ladykirk house.
