A steel framed campaign Rocking chair by R.W. Winfield.

Excellent patination to the steel frame, original burgundy leather horse hair filled squab cushion, leather arm and head rests.

English, circa 1870.

The firm of R.W. Winfield of Birmingham specialised in the design and manufacture of metal furniture, particularly beds, and between 1827 and 1854 took out several patents relating to the construction using iron tubing. Their stand at the Exhibition of 1851 included a rocking chair of tubular brass, similar to this design, various incarnations of this design were produced.
