A carved limestone plaque originally from Manchester and Salford Hospital, Circa 1888.
Carved in high releif , a cherubs head with wings above a central cartouche of a prancing goat.
4ft 3" long by 35" tall and 21" deep.
The symbol of the Ram represents protection as the ram protected the herd and also symbolises sacrifice as the ram was one of the first animals to be sacrificed on alters, hence their Latin name Aries which comes from aris meaning "alters".. It is a symbol for Christ taken from the Old Testament.
